ASK LAB developed AS Izhevsk, a custom typeface featuring both Latin and Cyrillic characters. The typeface is inspired by Izhevsk and, more specifically, by the industrial landscape of the city.

As part of the research, we were granted access to a local oil refinery, where we photographed the production process, machinery, pipelines, and large-scale metal structures. The geometry, industrial details, and raw materiality of the refinery became the visual foundation for the typeface.

The resulting brutalist letterforms translate the language of industrial architecture into typography, combining rigid geometry, heavy proportions, and structural details. The project connects the visual identity of Izhevsk with its industrial heritage while creating a typeface that functions as a contemporary graphic system.
