Our story

ASK LAB is an independent creative agency based in Berlin, creating identities, campaigns and visual worlds for global brands and creatives. Our practice is rooted in human craft. We believe ideas gain character through physical processes, experimentation and the imperfections of making things by hand.

We embrace technology as a way to expand human craft, not replace it. From generative AI and digital fabrication to 3D printing and analogue techniques, we move freely between the digital and physical to create work that feels contemporary without losing its human character. Our work has been created for clients including Apple, Nikon, Unilever, Sony Music, Adidas and Puma, and published and exhibited internationally.

Approach

Our approach starts with a strong idea. Whether we are building a brand identity, developing a campaign or creating a physical object, we look for a concept that can grow into a distinctive visual language across different formats and mediums.

From there, we experiment with the best way to bring it to life, combining creative direction, design and technology with hands-on making. Our in-house capabilities in 3D printing, CNC, laser cutting, digital printing and woodworking allow us to prototype and produce ideas physically, while digital tools and emerging technologies expand what is possible. This freedom lets us carry a concept from its first sketch to a complete visual world.

Studio lead

ASK LAB was founded and is creatively led by artist Anatoly Shabalin K. With a background in graphic design and studies at Central Saint Martins in London, his practice moves between art, design and creative direction.Alongside leading the studio, Anatoly maintains an independent artistic practice as a painter and sculptor.

This intersection of art and commercial work continues to shape ASK LAB’s approach, bringing experimentation, materiality and an artist’s perspective into the studio’s projects.
