Adidas commissioned ASK LAB to create a one-of-a-kind pair of Adidas Superstar sneakers as a birthday gift for Malbek, one of the brand’s ambassadors. Rather than producing a conventional customization, we approached the project as a collectible design object, combining product design, digital fabrication, and handcrafted finishing to create a pair that reflected the artist’s identity.

Using a 3D scan of Malbek’s face, we designed a removable lace charm that transformed the artist’s portrait into a wearable sculptural element. The heel was customized with exclusive branding, while the sneakers themselves were hand-dyed in Indian ink, giving every pair a unique surface and character. To complete the project, ASK LAB designed bespoke packaging and custom swing tags, extending the concept beyond the product itself into a fully considered unboxing experience. The result is a highly personal object that blurs the boundaries between fashion, art, and collectible design while demonstrating how craftsmanship and storytelling can elevate a classic silhouette into a unique cultural artifact.
