When composer and pianist Liam Gordon approached ASK LAB, the task was to create the cover for his new classical piano album Études. Instead of producing a conventional graphic cover, our Berlin-based creative agency developed a physical object that could embody the structure and atmosphere of the music itself. The central idea was a custom-designed piano built in miniature form, functioning simultaneously as sculpture, design object, and visual identity for the album.
The piano was constructed with multiple moving elements and integrated album branding directly into its structure, allowing the object to function as both instrument reference and storytelling device. Beneath the lid, we concealed the album’s tracklist, turning the simple gesture of opening the piano into a moment of discovery. Several set design environments were developed to photograph the object, each exploring different visual moods while maintaining a coherent design language for the release.
The album was later presented during a private launch event at Camaro Gallery in Berlin, where the project connected music, visual design, and spatial presentation into one cohesive creative production. For ASK LAB, the collaboration demonstrates how contemporary design can expand beyond graphics and transform a classical music release into a fully realized visual experience.
