Book Izhevk Black

Client:
Year:
2017

After living in London for six years, Anatoly returned to his hometown of Izhevsk to photograph the city from a new perspective. The project resulted in two small-format photography books: one documenting the city itself, and another focused on a local oil refinery.

The refinery series explores the industrial side of Izhevsk through machinery, pipelines, metal structures, and the raw geometry of the production environment.

A year later, this photographic research became the starting point for AS Izhevsk, a custom typeface developed in both Latin and Cyrillic. The industrial architecture and structures documented in the refinery became the main visual reference for its brutalist letterforms, transforming the photographic project into a functional typographic system.
